Ross Bennett Collection has been chosen as one of the 10 finalists to show in a full fledged runway production for Texas Next Top Designer 2009 on May 21st. He has been kind enough to send a sneak peek of what he’s been working on in his studio. These photos are his latest creation; cream coloured fabric is 100% raw silk, belt is bamboo/raw silk combination.

Ross Bennett Collection was founded in the spring of 2008. He has since shown his line at Organic in the City Presents: An Organic Fashion Show at the Texas Discovery Gardens benefitting their new butterfly garden. He has also dressed Dallas Socialite and fashion show producer, Rhonda Chambers. She can be seen wearing one of his gowns at an event for DIFFA: Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS on May 2nd.
His line consists of natural fabrics that use dye process methods from items that are usually thought of as food; coffee beans and onion skins are just the tip of the iceberg. The actual fabrics could be anything from organic cotton, raw silks and bamboo blends. I’ve had the pleasure of watching this raw fabric transform into gowns and wonderful active wear to my amazement. His style is clean and elegant yet somehow maintains the practicalities needed for a lady on the go; a unique perspective that offers the active lifestyle a put together look while remaining effortlessly chic.
The gala/winner announcement will be at Victory Park in Dallas, Texas on May 21st, 2009. A special appearance from Project Runway designers Elisa Jiminez and Jeffrey Marion Lee will be sure to add an extra dimension of excitement to the show! The event will also feature an undisclosed indie band to provide live music for the evening. More details to come!
